Now at a planet near you

SPECIAL NOTE: Some time ago we dropped an interactive forum service due to spam and hacks, and sought another platform. We've decided to utilize the popular BuddyPress on our blog site, augmented by bbPress. To our 300+ registered followers, thanks for your patience. Implementation is in progress!

Welcome to the Noble Planet Blog and Community Network.

Let me start by stating the obvious: Earth needs your help. The creation of Noble Planet is an effort to inspire, inform, organize, and call to action anyone who wants to join in a global effort to benefit others, whether they reside in your neighborhood or on another continent. This blog is just one part of a multi-faceted effort to gather knowledge and motivated people at the nobleplanet.com. We invite you to join us, get to know the growing community, learn more about the areas of knowledge and action that interest you, contribute your own passion and knowledge, and partner with others who are taking action. There are many ways to get involved.

The essence of nobility is putting the well-being of others before your own and awakening the compassion to help those who are suffering. When you embrace a noble vision for yourself and our planet, you step on to a path with heart. As you move forward, you will find ways to further spark your compassion and work for the benefit of others so together we can have a better world in the future. You can start wherever you are today, right now, in whatever circumstances you find yourself. In fact, you can be the future now.

In this blog you will encounter many ideas we hope you will find worthy of your consideration, some expressed in the written word, others expressed in video or still images. Noble Planet has publish an e-book, The Floods of Knith, a children's chapter book about how to tackle complex environmental problems, written for 9-12 year olds, but beneficial for any reader. More on that later.

We invite you to express your own ideas and make a contribution to the knowledge of the community. We are upgrading our social networking and forum software and hope you will vigorously join in when everything isĀ  running smoothly. We hope you will join our users/members network which enables the sharing of ideas in a great variety of ways. Also at nobleplanet.com, you can subscribe to our community newsletter, Be the Future Now, as a way to stay current with the most promising ideas, practices, and projects the emerge from the community. The next issue will appear in early 2016.

In time we hope to sponsor a real time community conference so members can meet face to face. On our wiki please add your expertise to the knowledgebase. Our focus here is on good ideas and how they can be implemented. Share your ideas and know-how so that others can build upon your knowledge to spread good ideas and practices that can really work.

Thank you for visiting. We hope that you find that the time you choose to spend with us is worthwhile.

We are so glad you are here.

Climate in Paris

Will it be difficult for officials attending the Climate summit to stay on topic given yesterday’s attacks? Will be far more upheavals and deaths from climate change and many of them will be more dramatic than the attacks–it’s just that they arrive in slow motion. Continue Reading

Thoreau and economics

I’ve admired Thoreau since I first read Walden; or, Life in the Woods when I was thirteen or so. For a time in my adult life I lived in Lincoln, Massachusetts, just a couple of miles from Walden Pond. And for a stretch of a year or two I got up at 6am, drove to… Continue Reading
